How to remove black mould from bathroom sealant and prevent it returning

Silicone sealant is found along the length of showers, baths and sinks to stop water from reaching the fixtures. Its rubbery consistency and constant exposure to water and moisture make it the perfect breeding ground for black mould to grow. It's also one of the hardest areas to clean, especially if there is a build-up of black mould over a few months or even years.

Fans of Mrs Hinch have taken to dedicated cleaning pages on Facebook to share their top tips on removing mould from bathroom sealants after a user asked for recommendations.

Helen Wood wrote: "Best cleaner to buy for removing mould from bathroom sealant please."

Amongst all the suggestions from fellow cleaning enthusiasts, the majority recommended using Astonish Mould & Mildew Blaster.

Elizabeth Gates replied: "Astonish is the best mould cleaner, just spray and leave. Wash off later and spray again. It kills spores, fabulous stuff."

As Molly Callaghan nears completion on the purchase of her first home, she is adamant it would never have been possible without nearly two decades worth of financial support to draw on - and even with that, she says she never had a chance of finding her dream home in London.

So, how did Molly do it? Find out HERE.

Jim Althorp said: "Astonish mould cleaner. Don't waste money on anything else. We sprayed and left and didn't even have to scrub."

Annie Bruce commented: "Easy. Spray with Astonish mould and mildew spray. Leave overnight and rinse off. I do this once a week and it never comes back again."

Lara Hall advised: "Use the astonish spray and leave overnight. It's game-changing. You won't believe the difference."

Suzie Drake wrote: "Astonish's mould remover spray and leave. Amazing stuff, always works wonders for me."

According to Astonish's website, their mould and mildew blaster's formula "blasts away tough mould and mildew stains in minutes with no scrubbing whatsoever".

They said: "It effectively removes mould and mildew stains in minutes so that no scrubbing is required. Simply spray, leave and wipe clean.

"The active formula helps prevent the return of any mould or mildew - giving you a long lasting cleaning solution!"

That also added that this spray is ideal to use on walls, uPVC window frames, glass, plastic shower curtains, bathroom tiles, grout, silicone sealant, concrete, sinks and plug-holes.

Not only is this product effective as a result of its formulae but it is also affordable. The spray can be picked up from Asda and Wilko for 99p and is sold at Morrisons for £1.25.

Other Mrs Hinch fans suggested a different mould-removing spray called HG Mould Remover.

Germaine Burton said: "HG Mould cleaner is fantastic, wouldn't use anything else again after trying everything else."

June Adamson wrote: "I like the HG spray. It's a foam so it's easier to see where you've sorted."
